Coupling of 3D CFD Models to 0D Models of Complex Multi-Scale Boundary Conditions
The simulation visualises the continious stages during the cardiac cycle, diastole (relaxation of the heart) and systole (contraction of the heart). The mitral valve (leaflet) remains closed during systole and oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle is provided to the entire body. The mitral valve opens during diastole, allowing blood to enter the left ventricle from the atrium through the leaflet.
